Flashback – Trip to Southeast Asia (Introduction)

First of all: Happy birthday, mom!

Secondly, during the summer of 2008 I was very fortunate to go on a 2 week trip to Southeast Asia with my parents and dear friend Meg. To say we had a blast is an understatement. It was so amazing to visit Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam all in one trip. Each of the cultures were rich in diversity and tradition. I found it particularly interesting to see how the character of each country varied from the next. For example, I found the Laotian people to generally be very gentle, quiet and welcoming and the Vietnamese to be much more aggressive, loud and busy – they always had somewhere to be, someone to see, something to sell.

Meg and I flew from D.C. to Bangkok, Thailand where we met my parents. (They were coming from Jakarta, Indonesia where they lived at the time). We would start our adventure in Bangkok, making our way slowly to the country of Laos, then to Vietnam, and then finally back to Bangkok before we all headed back home.

Meg and I on our layover in Narita, Japan waiting to catch our flight to Bangkok. (We flew directly to Narita from D.C.)

I hope you enjoy the next several posts as Meg and I share some of our experiences from this wonderful trip!
