For those who have read my blog before – it is no secret that travel is one of my passions. I just love jetting off and exploring new and old destinations. I have given this list a lot of thought and trimming it down to just six places in total for domestic and international travel was super tough. You’ll see that a lot of these places have significant meaning. My one rule for this list was that I only chose places where I have never been before. Hopefully I can get cracking on this list in 2013!
Okay, I have a confession to make, I have been to Hawaii before. HOWEVER it was from ages 1-4, so I don’t remember a thing – honestly, even pictures don’t bring up vague memories. And as far as I know, I have only been to Honolulu, so when I eventually make this trip I would also visit another island I have never been to. So I feel like I can add Hawaii to this list. My good friend Stephanie moved here earlier this year from DC. I miss her dearly and I would love the opportunity to visit her and see her new life, and explore the amazing scenery and activities this wonderful place has to offer. Maybe Stephanie can get me on a surfboard for the first time too!
I am dying to go to Napa. Wine tasting and seeing beautiful scenery all day long? Sign me up please. Sometimes at work I’ll look at all the deals on Jetsetter for bed & breakfasts in and around Napa and just fantasize. I included San Francisco in this trip because Tommy and I would probably fly into San Francisco, spend a couple of days here before heading to Napa, and then fly out of San Francisco. Tommy has also never been to this city and has been wanting to go. (I have been to San Fran, but not since I was 10 or so).
3. Omaha, Nebraska
I love you Meg. That is all. (Like Stephanie, Meg is a dear friend who left me in DC, but not for Hawaii, for Omaha to go to law school).
1. Venice, Italy
I have been wanting and aching to go to Venice for years and years. As I always say, “I want to go there before it sinks”. The food is a dead giveaway for wanting to go anywhere in Italy, but I think it would be so romantic (and yes cliché) to take a sunset gondola ride with Tommy. Since Tommy has never been to Italy before (I have been to Rome, Florence, and Tuscany), we’d definitely add on these cities as part of our Italian adventure. I want Tommy to see as much as Italy as he can.
2. Greece (Athens and the islands)
Wewerethisclose to going to Greece for our honeymoon earlier this year. I had our entire trip basically planned out – we would start in Athens, go to Santorini, then Mykonos, and back to Athens. However my plans didn’t align with work obligations. It would be so much fun to island hop, eat delicious food and drink wine, and to see all the historic sites. We will get to Greece. That is a promise.
3. Buenos Aires, Argentina
As much as I have traveled, I have never been to South America. Thus, I don’t know much about the history and culture of this continent, but I want to remedy that right away. I have heard nothing but great things from friends and family who have traveled to Argentina.
What are the cities/countries on your list you must travel to, domestic and/or international?
