Run or Dye 5k Recap

Andrea didn’t rain on our 5k parade!

The GWU Alumni Community Outreach and Service Committee’s first running race was a success! Three of the four committee members ran the race (while the fourth member and her fiance cheered us on at the finish line). We also “recruited” another person to run the race with us.

Clearly pre-race!

Clearly pre-race!

While I enjoyed running the race, the jury is still out on whether I would do another Run or Dye 5k. I’m just not sure it was worth the $50 or so registration fee. I thought the “dye-stations” were a little sparse – heavy at the beginning, halfway point, and finish line – but I thought a few more volunteers could have been a little more spread out with their coloring duties. I found this funny, as I was nearing the end of the race, a young girl at the last dye station yelled in my direction “that lady is too clean”! I’m not sure how I escaped all the dye, I purposefully ran right in the thick of everything. Oh well. I will say that in our race swag bag each runner got a package of different colored dye to throw about during the race, whether on his/herself or someone else.

I also found it perplexing that the race organizers seemed to have the same 6 songs on repeat during the 3.5 hours the race lasted from the first wave of participants to the last wave of participants crossing the finish line.

The good news is the company was fabulous and this race fit perfectly with my half-marathon training program, as it called for me to run a 5k race on Saturday.

I have to give a shout out to one of the committee members, Zohra, who ran her first 5k race and rocked it. 🙂

All colored!

Doing our part to make the world a more colorful place!
