I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. For us DMV locals, the weather this weekend was absolutely perfect, which explains why I spent most of the weekend outside. 🙂
On Saturday afternoon, Tommy and I explored Solomons Island, a small waterfront fishing village where the Patuxent River meets the Chesapeake River. It’s about 30 minutes or so south of Chesapeake Beach. Tommy and I thought the island (really more of a peninsula) was very charming. There were a lot of fun restaurants, bars, shops, and water activities available for locals and visitors.
Once we arrived, we took our yoga teacher’s advice and went to the Lighthouse Restaurant and Dock Bar for drinks and appetizers. (We didn’t want to spoil our appetite for dinner since my mom was coming to our house to cook my delicious birthday dinner later that day!) We were able to sit on the deck outside and had a great view of the water.

We decided to order a pitcher of their red sangria, (actually we requested their white, but our waitress brought us the red sangria. No problemo!) an order of their fried pickles, and an order of their freshly made guacamole with tortilla chips. So good!

After we finished our beverage and snacks, we walked along the boardwalk and popped into a few shops before heading home. We met a couple of really nice and talkative shop owners who were thrilled to give us a short history lesson on Solomons Island and share a calendar of exciting upcoming events in the area for the summer. We definitely plan to come back to Solomons Island, probably as soon as the 4th of July to see what kind of festivities they have in store!
Was the beach in your weekend plans or in your upcoming weekend plans? It’s never too early to start thinking about the weekend, right?!
