West Coast Christmas

This past Christmas was spent on the west coast with my mom’s side of the family. We flew in and out of LAX (and were able to take advantage of that for a little bit as you’ll see), but the majority of our vacation was spent in and around Palm Desert.

Here are some photo highlights of our trip!

On our way from DC to LAX!

Once we landed at LAX, we promptly headed to my good friend Sarah’s house to visit. We then headed to dinner at Din Tai Fung.IMG_1710

One afternoon Tommy, mom, Ava and I took a long scenic drive through the San Jacinto mountains and eventually found ourselves in a cute mountain town, Idlewild.

As you saw from this post, Ava got to meet Santa for the first time in Palm Desert!

One day while mom babysat, Grandpa took Tommy and me to the Palm Springs Air Museum. He is a volunteer tour guide there and he gave us a great educational tour.

As has become tradition, whenever we are in this neck of the woods we always make a day tip to Joshua Tree National Park. This trip was no different!

For dinner on the 23rd, Grandpa treated (mostly) all of the cousins and aunts for an amazing Christmas dinner at Vicky’s of Santa Fe. My brother and cousin Lani sadly couldn’t be there.

For Christmas Eve dinner my grandpa’s buddy and his wife treated mom, Tommy, and me to a delicious sushi dinner. You might notice Ava wearing her new Christmas Eve PJs!

Tommy, Ava, and I had some fun on Christmas morning snuggling and opening Christmas presents before we….headed to San Diego for the day!

Tommy and I decided to take a day trip to San Diego for a couple of reasons. I had reached out to my cousin Chris to see if he and his family were available for lunch that day – we hadn’t seen each other in 15+ years! – and because Tommy wanted to see San Diego as he had never been there before. Mom decided to stay behind in Palm Desert and spend time with Grandpa.

Of course we HAD to stop by the beach.

I love this photo of Ava on Coronado Island.

We met my cousin and his family at a Mexican restaurant in downtown San Diego.

Tommy loved the wind turbines that were scattered alongside the highway leaving and entering Palm Desert.

Before we took off on our flight back to DC, we stopped by a favorite eatery of ours – Joan’s on Third.

Until next time Cali!
