Double Date Night at Red Hen

Happy Friday folks!

Hope everyone had a wonderful week and has some fun weekend plans ahead. We have a couple gatherings/play dates scheduled along with some regular weekend agenda items – music class and errand-running.

Last night while my mom kindly babysat Ava, Tommy and I headed to dinner at Red Hen with our friends Allison and George. I had been dying to eat here, especially since it topped Tom Sietsema’s Top 5 on his Fall Dining Guide. I had also heard wonderful things from folks that had eaten here before. I was not led astray.

Everything we ordered was so rich, flavorful, and tasty. I liked the “rustic farmhouse” feel of the restaurant as well.

Here is what our party ordered food-wise during our meal.

At the suggestion of many people we ordered the Whipped Ricotta Crostini with Balsamic Brown Butter & Truffle Honey. Heaven on a plate.

For our other appetizer the boys wanted to try the Pork Belly. In Tommy’s exact words, “it was really good”!

For our entrees, Allison and I decided to order two pasta dishes and share them because we couldn’t decide what to order. Our waiter said to order both, which was the best decision of the evening.

The pasta on the left is the Mezze Rigatoni with Fennel Sausage Ragu & Pecorino Romano and the pasta on the right is their “off-the-menu” pasta. You have to know ahead of time to order this. I can’t remember what the name of the pasta was or its exact ingredients. I do remember it being a very simple-sounding dish when our waiter explained what it was. So good!

The boys each ordered the Spare Ribs for their entrees.

While Tommy opted for another beer for his dessert, Allison, George and I happily ordered a sweat treat.

Allison and George shared the Chocolate & Creme Fraiche Cake with Fudge Sauce and Mint Gelato.

I ordered the Maple Custard with Caramelized Hazelnut Crumble. Incredibly rich and creamy.

It was a wonderful night of food, booze, and impassioned conversation. 🙂

Have a great weekend!
