Arlene’s Bridal Shower

First and foremost my thoughts and prayers go out to all of the people affected by the terror shooting in Orlando. The fact that the shooting happened on my birthday has been surreal and strange. Sending lots of love and light to everyone.

On Saturday afternoon I completed my months-long responsibilities of being the hostess- with- the- mostess! My mom and I threw my longtime friend, Arlene, a bridal shower at my house. She and her fiance, Seyla, will be getting married over Labor Day weekend in the Dominican Republic! Yours truly is the Matron of Honor and Ava is the Flower Girl. 🙂

While mom did most of the cooking, I was in charge of the invitations, the decorations, the games, the dessert, and drinks.

The “theme” of the shower was “Purple and Silver” Arlene and Seyla’s wedding colors. I thought the above banner was so apropos.

I had a bit of fun choosing different kinds of purple flowers at Trader Joe’s.

As you can see below, the drinks offered were Cucumber Water (an idea I got from Tiffany’s baby shower), sweetened sun-tea (homemade the day before) and a signature cocktail, Moscato Punch, which was SO GOOD and easy to make.

I, of course, had my baking dream team, Tammy and Miki, make the beautiful and delicious cupcakes.

Mom went all out in terms of the food prepared. (And I unfortunately didn’t have enough time to snap a photo of the spread before folks delved in). Just trust me, it was fantastic and so yummy!

  • Shrimp chips
  • Spring rolls and dumplings (thanks to Seyla’s mom for bringing them!)
  • Cherries

  • Pork Char Siu
  • Marinated Chicken Drumettes
  • Vegetable Lo Mein (mom ordered this from a restaurant nearby)
  • Papaya Salad
  • Seafood Curry
  • Steamed Rice

  • Lemon Blackberry Cupcakes
  • Assorted Fruit (thanks to Seyla’s mom!)

Arlene begged us to let her do the favors. Weren’t they adorable? Little chocolates were inside!
